Prior to Jerry Rice arrived to the league, Dwight Clark was the 49ers premier receiver in the history of the SF 49ers. Dwight Clark and Joe Montana joined for a lot of remarkable plays including the most famous reception in the history of the game. This catch was merely known as “The Catch.” It was January 10, 1982 and the 49ers had never claimed the Super Bowl. With a tight game taking place, the 49ers were loosing with not much time still left in the match. Joe Montana dropped back moving right and tossed a higher than average pass in the end zone that Dwight Clark caught. The fans and the area of San Francisco went nuts. This was the beginning of the team winning 5 Super Bowls in 13 seasons.

These days, the two of these amazing football professionals can be observed together at special events. Just lately at a regional function in the San francisco bay area a family unit came to the event with their 2 small children. The youthful girl was named Montana and her smaller brother was named Clark. This type of fan commitment demonstrates the commitment that people had for both of these excellent players. Naturally, Joe and Dwight were astounded that these children were named after them.

One more fantastic story concerns Joe Montana and Dwight Clark when they went out driving to look at some properties. In their drive, they spotted two boys participating in football in their front yard. One child was dressed in a Montana jersey and the other was bearing a Clark jersey. Joe and Dwight made a decision to stop, said hi and threw the ball about for a brief period of time and then they left. There were never ever any parents or guardians or grown ups, of others about to observe this unique event. Visualize what individuals would say, or their mothers and fathers when they came inside to tell this story. I don't believe anyone believed these two young boys and I doubt they believe them nowadays. This is a very good story to be told over and again.The recognition of the NFL participants is great. In other football leagues, like the Canadian Football League, or the Indoor Arena League the players usually are not as well recognized. Baseball in the MLB also has some well known players. Basketball, soccer as well as other sports will not have the following like football and baseball. Nevertheless, when you reckon that Joe Montana was a four time Super Bowl Champion and 3 time Super Bowl MVP and Dwight Clark made quite possibly the most famous catch ever in the history of the NFL, they are acknowledged wherever each goes, even now.

Will there ever be another pair of great players like this once again for the 49ers? There was also Jerry Rice and Steve Young and Roger Craig grabbed more passes than any participant from Joe Montana. The group back in these years was terrific and impressive!

Dwight Clark and Joe Montana were a great combination that may never be revisited again in the future of the NFL!
