Lionel Train Restoration by Brian Green

Lionel Trains are more than just a hobby, they are an escape. When I was growing up, the steam locomoitve wasn't a distant memory but neither was it a regular sight on the rails. So, in stead of seeing the steam locomotive running down the tracks on a regular basis on the railway, I could still see it on the tracks in my basement. I enjoyed the sound of the whistle, the smoke and the soothing chug, chug, chug. Call me a romantic, I guess.

My Lionel and Marx trains were already over 30 years old when I inherited them from my uncle and father. No only did I have to learn how to maintain them, I had to treat them with care. After all, my dad and uncle kept them in pristine condition. So, it was disappointing when the drive gears failed on them and I had no way to repair them. The closest service center was 90 miles away! My Dad drove me there with my prized possessions so that they could be fixed. Anyhow, to make a long story short, they scratched up the FLAWLESS 1936 Lionel. From tha point, I never trusted anyone with my trains again. I learned how to do it myself!

I created a DVD and manual to help other people repair their own Lionel Trains as well. I found out from many of my customers that they had similar experiences with giving their Locomotives to others to fix. I is a sad thing when you entrust something with not only sentimental value but collector value to another person who doesn't care about it as much as you do. Then it is returned to you in a condition that indicates a mishandling. I have heard many horror stories.
